Tuesday September 9 - Saturday September 13

The Games will be held here in Nanaimo and will include Badminton. I will post links here to Games information as well as registration links as information

  • Registration for players will open on April 1, 2025. There will be a play down event held here in Nanaimo for Zone 2 (central and north island) on  on April 26 11:30 to 2:00 pm at Oliver Woods. My recommendation is for players that are likely going to play, go ahead and register with the Games Society. They have a new system, so most players will need to create a new registration with the society, even though they have played before. This costs $20. The advantage is you will now be on the Games mailing list, and will get important updates, like the one below for zone 2. This saves a step when you go to register. Wade Major is the badminton zone 2 rep. He recommends holding off registering as a player until after the play down. In the event there are too many players for a given event, the play down will sort out who can actually play. If you register now, but don’t actually qualify, you won’t get your money back. Please read the April 3, 2025 update. He also notes, that most people who want to play will be able to. This year, you are allowed to have player partners from out of your zone.

April 28, 2025 Please contact me for more information or to report any problems or issues regarding registration! We have had one player report they were unable to add their events on an Android phone with the Chrome browser. This has been reported to the games for investigation. Rob Carruthers

Badminton Information

  • Venue - Oliver Woods Community Centre, 6000 Oliver Road, Nanaimo

  • Registration Fee – $137 (includes $20 membership, $17 sport fee, $100 participant fee). Refund Policy. Refunds will only be given for withdrawal because of illness or injury up until 45 days prior to the Games. No refunds after that.

  • Days of Competition – Participants must accredit (register) on Tuesday, Sept 9; competition takes place Wednesday – Saturday, September 10 – 13

  • Eligibility: For Badminton, participants must be permanent residents of British Columbia who are 55 years of age or older by December 31st in the year of the Games. Participants can only move up in skill level and can only move down in age category.  Players generally need to play in their own age group. A player can only play in a younger age category when there is no other partner for them in their own age category. For sports with more than one age category, a person must not be displaced by someone wishing to play in a younger age category. A player can chose to play in the competitive division and must do so based on performance in previous games or being identified as a completive player by Badminton BC.

  • The rule regarding entries is that each zone is allowed up to 6 teams or individuals in each recreational age group, 6 teams or individuals in each competitive division and the same in the open division.

  • For more details regarding qualifying click on this link: Badminton Rules and Regulations

  • Skill Level - Recreational and Competitive for age group, except only open for 80+ age groups

  • Regulations at the 55+ games are somewhat different than regular badminton tournament play and it is the role of the Zone Badminton coordinators and the Games Rules Committee to ensure that the regulations are being followed. Players are encouraged to contact their Zone Two Badminton coordinator, Wade Major, before completing the online registration.

Please! Register as a Volunteer for Badminton

  • We will need a lot of volunteers to run this tournament. It runs for 4 days. We will need help with setup and take down. We will need volunteers for Greeters, Court Monitors, First Aid, Medal Presentations and more! All volunteers must be registered with the Games and will be provided official credentials. The first step is to create an online volunteer account and fill in the information required. This is different than a participant account. Duties will actually be assigned later. I am hoping that all players who plan to participate will also register as a volunteer. The more volunteers we have the shorter the volunteer shifts. For example, we will need probably 3-4 shifts per day for court monitors on each side of the gym. That would be 6-8 volunteers per day for 2-3 hour shifts. That is a lot of shifts to cover! I am registered! Rob Carruthers
